Authors, illustrators, and other lovers of children’s literature from around the world have come together once again to promote print picture books. I’m proud to be a Picture Book Month Ambassador and help promote the importance of the picture book.
You can read all about this great celebration at picturebookmonth.com. I encourage you to visit the site often throughout the month to read essays from famous authors about the magic of picture books.
…But the picture book also suggests something greater – that the world is a place we might have an actual connection to. In the arms of a parent, a child hears and touches and feels that connection through the simple gift of story. -Caldecott Honor winner, Aaron Becker
So how can you be a part of Picture Book Month?
- Teachers and parents should check out the activities page where you’ll find the Teacher’s Guide and author-specific activity suggestions.
- Download the calendar and follow along throughout the month to plan your reading along with the daily themes.
- Spread the love on your social media outlets using #PictureBookMonth.
- Register to be a Picture Book Month Ambassador, like me!

Thanks for co-hosting the #kidlitbloghop and posting about #PictureBookMonth…
I’m looking forward to seeing which books are chosen each day, and buying the ones we don’t have here in Shanghai.
Cheers from ‘the other co host’

Wonderful! This is the first year I’ve heard of it. I’m so glad to be a part of it!
Tiffiny, our library has a special shelf dedicated towards the Picture Book of the Month theme. I found some new ones and some old favorites. We are really enjoying reading these ! I really think that older kids (who are graduated to chapter books) should revisit some of the old favorites and discover new ones as well. There is a certain charm to picture books that you wont find in chapter books 🙂
Thanks for sharing on #KidLitBlogHop.

I love the idea of a whole shelf dedicated to the theme! And I definitely agree about the magic of picture books. When I taught fourth grade, I would often use picture books to illustrate different points with the students. I would leave them out for the students to peruse, and they enjoyed that. Thanks for stopping by.
This is such a great idea! How do you register? Thanks!
If you go to their website (linked in the blog post) and then click the “Celebrate” tab, the second bullet point on that page gives you the link to register. Thanks for stopping by.
